Senior Pennant – Blue Team report

Gosnells Blue travelled to Kwinana to play the host team on Monday the 17th April 2023.

After a first up win at home, we were confident that we would put up a strong showing at Kwinana.

Kenny How & David Voysey led us off and had a real fight on their hands to the end to earn a well-deserved half.

David Stephenson [the form player with a couple of stableford rounds in the high 30’s] & Rod Chapman teed off second but were never in the hunt & fell short losing 4/2.

Alan Andersson was an inclusion for Ken Gray & teamed up with Roy Wingrove. The handicaps for Gosnells were a 5 & 19 whilst the Kwinana handicaps were 3 & 18. This was a high-quality game that seesawed all afternoon. There was never more than 2 holes in it and despite some unbelievable putting from Roy we fell agonizing short, losing 1 down.

Myself & Graham [Ding Dong] Bell started like we did not wish to go past the 10th hole, being 2 down after 2. When my buggy fell into the greenside bunker on the second, I was starting to think “This is not going to be our day”. We dug deep & after halving the next 5 holes managed to win the 8th. From there we yinged & yanged well & ended up winning 2 / 1.

Chris Hofman & Ken Ritchie partnered up and teed off last. Unfortunately, they had one of those days we all experience now & again & were no match for their opponents who beat them 6 / 5.

All four teams in our division have now had a win & loss. Winning an away game will be paramount to topping the ladder in Blue division or alternatively losing away games by as small a margin as possible. We lead the ladder by virtue of our 4 & ½ to a ½ win over Rockingham in round one.

Thanks to Alan for filling in & let’s look forward to our next game against Royal Perth at home on the 1st May.
