Golf is a game of ‘could’ve, should’ve, would’ve’ and the Gozzy Girls experienced that today, as we fell agonisingly short of winning the Senior Pennant Flag in the final round at Royal Fremantle.
We were defeated by Cottesloe, who was running second on the ladder, by 3 games to 1, which left our teams on 7 points each. Then came the dreaded countback……..
Cottesloe 13 wins and 7 losses. Gosnells 12.5 wins and 7.5 losses.
Our congratulations to Cottesloe, and no doubt for us, the sun will rise again in the morning!
Our results today were:
Andy Riggir and Lyn Johnston won 4/3. A great start and very well-played girls!
Deb Callcott and Lynne Smith lost 7/5 during a very challenging match.
Sandra Alexander and Colleen Harvey lost 6/5. The Cottesloe ladies putted so well on the slick greens.
Sue Symes and Chris Rowden almost pulled us through, including an amazing 12+m putt by Sue however, it was not to be, and they lost 2/1.
Many thanks to Bev Thompson, our fantastic Captain, who, along with Fay Truscott, offered us words of encouragement throughout the day and also to Fiza, our GM, who made a most welcome surprise visit and then joined in with us for the commiserations!
Unfortunately, we could not bring a Pennant Flag back to Gosnells for this season.
The entire Senior Pennant season was played in great spirit by all teams from the six Clubs – Royal Fremantle, Royal Perth, Nedlands, Cottesloe, Mosman Park and ourselves.
All the golf courses were well-presented throughout the season, providing us with some challenging golf!
Now, come on 2024.
