Senior men pennant results 15 April – White division

Date  15 April

Result Gosnells 5- Pinjarra 0

Revenge is sweet after our away loss to Pinjarra in week 1 of the season, Pinjarra visited Gosnells on Monday and the team were determined to reverse the result from the previous week and we did that very well winning 5-0.

Captain Tony was like a Ryder Cup captain and changed up the partnerships this week and after Michael & Stuart were flogged last week they were split up and given new partners, and the results were outstanding.

1. Off the tee first was Barry Urbano, and super Sub Graham Morris, with handicaps being pretty even the boys, played some excellent golf and had the first point on the board with a very good win 5-4 which made the team more determined to get a good result on the day. Well down Graham & Barry for getting the team off to a good start.

2. Second off the tee was the new pairing of Michael Smart & Eddie Purrington and what a change that was. Michael after 9 holes was 1 under the card off the stick and the team was 4 up playing great golf. Eddie chipped in and halved a few holes and was contributing with his handicap therefore the match on the back 9 did not last that long with the boys racing to a BIG WIN 6-5 in the end. Michael played extremely well and was 1 over off the stick when the match finished. Great effort gents keep it up this week at Royal Perth.

3. Third group off was Rob Pearce & Ken Ferris and we were determined to reverse our loss at Pinjarra. After a bad drive on the 10th and a chip back on the fairway, I made the green front edge and Ken was front edge for 2 with a stroke. I managed to hole a 60 foot put for par and we were able to halve the hole and from then Ken & I never were behind.

Won the 11, 13, 15, 17 holes thanks to Ken with some nice work, we were able to turn 3 Up and were in a good position. Winning the 1st hole with a tap-in birdie to go 4 up, we continued to halve the next 3 holes, thanks to Ken making some nice putts and on the 5th hole I managed to hit the green in regulation, but the boys from Pinjarra struggled with the greens so I was able to 2 putt from long distance to secure a good win of 5-4.

4. 4th off was the new pairing of Stuart Allen & John O’Connor up against the team that flogged Stuart last week at Pinjarra. Well, with a new partner and handicaps to play with, John & Stuart were able to combine well and make some big putts when counted and come away with a 3-2 win. That was an excellent result and proved that having some strokes to play with does help especially in a tight contest. Well played guys.

5. The last group off was Captain Tony & Bob Cush who after 2 games remained undefeated with another solid effort winning 3-2. The game was a good match and with handicaps pretty even it came down to who could hole the putts when needed to win the holes, and Tony & Bob did that very well.

Great effort gents to be undefeated after the first 2 rounds.

Next week we venture to Royal Perth Golf Club.
