May Spotlight Member – Johnson Taylor
Johnson Taylor, commonly referred to as ‘JT’ is 32 years old and a full member of Gosnells Golf Club. He has been a valued member of our club since November 2021, first joining as a lifestyle member and then transitioning into a full member. He plays off a handicap of 6.4.
Johnson only began seriously taking up golf in the last few years after giving up playing football due to injuries. He said he began playing more regularly at public courses and even played our course on a few occasions as a member guest. During our conversation Johnson stated, ‘I was getting more and more into golf and eventually built up the courage become a member of a golf club.’ He chose Gosnells Golf Club as his club of choice due to several factors such as the positive experiences he had playing the course as a guest, the close distance to his home and the challenging nature of the course that allowed him to work on improving his golf game. Johnson’s growing passion for the game of golf is evident in his handicap, lowering himself from a 16 to a 6.4 in the last 12 months.
JT is an active member of our club who plays 36 holes a week on average. He primarily plays in our weekend competitions, which is a feature of our club that wasn’t available to him as a public golfer. When asked about his opinion on the best characteristics of our golf course, Johnson replied, “the tight tee shots and how challenging the greens are.” His favourite hole on the course is the second which he said is a “fun par 5 that offers me the most birdie chances.” JT’s personal best round at GGC is a 1 under 69, (which included 4 birdies) a feat he is rightly very proud of.
Apart from on the course, you will often see JT’s friendly face in our restaurant and alfresco bar, which he said was another great feature of the club and something he searches for in a club environment. He mentioned that “the vibe of the club is very relaxed and all the staff are friendly.” Along with it offering a great atmosphere, JT loves the affordability of our clubhouse, especially with the added discounts our members receive on food and drinks.
