Senior men pennant division results – 22 April

White division

Result: Royal Perth 4  Gosnells 1

The result did not go our way at Royal Perth on Monday 22nd April, but the result was closer than the 4-1 result.

Two matches went all the way to the 18 hole with the home side winning 1 up on those matches, either could have gone to Gosnells but it was not to be on the day.

First off was Graham Morris & the Terminator John Connor who had zero handicaps to play with and gave strokes to the team from Royal Perth in a match that went back and forth over the tight course, the home side used their strokes to advantage and had a 3/2 win. Graham & John both played well but with zero strokes to play with, found it tough and went down.

Second off was Michael Smart & Eddie Purrington who had a very tight match before going down by 1 hole. The finish was a tight affair with the team from Royal Perth using their knowledge of the greens to hole a monster 40ft putt on the last to win. Eddie & Michael were like the Freo Dockers up & down throughout the match but lost to a big putt.

Better luck next week at Rockingham.

Third off was Rob Pearce & Ken Ferris hoping to continue their winning form, and started off well and were 2 up after 10 holes with Ken having 6 strokes extra using them to our advantage. Over the next few holes, the team from Royal Perth managed to win a few holes and were ahead after 15 holes, and were in the box seat to win. On the 16 hole par 3, I hit an excellent shot on the green to 6 feet and was able to win the hole, and we are all square going to the last 2 holes. But the next hole proved very costly for us as we lost to go 1 down with the last to play. Ken had a stroke to play with and hit an excellent drive, and left a 7 iron into the green, but put it in the bunker and got out but over the green, and the team from Royal Perth played steady golf to halve the hole and win the match 1 Up.

Fourth off was Stuart Allan and John O’Connor who had a very good win with 3/2 over Royal Perth.  They were off to a great start and were 2 up early and were never behind throughout the match. They continued to play steady golf and won some holes with good putting from both guys. The boys played with great spirit and held their nerve to win – our only win for the day.

Last off was the undefeated team of Captain Tony and Bob Cush, but their luck finally ran out at Royal Perth losing 3/2 . The match did not start too well for the boys and they were 2 down after 6 holes, and as much as they tried to get back into the match, they could not win a hole. As holes were running out Tony & Bob were pushing hard and hitting some excellent shots but the putts were not dropping, and the Royal Perth team played steady golf to win. Better luck at Rockingham.

Barry Urbano was unable to play at Royal Perth due to the cart policy but will return in our next match at Rockingham on Monday 29 April.
