As of 3 July 2024 Preferred lies for winter conditions have been put in place.
When a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height, the player may take free relief once by lifting, placing and playing the ball from the relief area. Before lifting the ball, the player must first mark its position. The ball once lifted may be cleaned. Having lifted the ball, the player must then place it and play it from a spot within six inches of and not nearer the hole than where the ball originally lay.
