August Member Spotlight – Mark Halliday

Mark Halliday is a Gosnells Golf Club full member who currently plays off a handicap of 7.4. Mark who is more commonly known as ‘Doc’, has been a GGC member since 1998 and is 52 years old.

Having been a member of the golf club for over half his life, Mark admitted that Gosnells has been the only golf club he has ever been a part of. He attributes this to the course’s convenient location and the relaxed and friendly environment it provides, stating, “I’ve always loved coming to the club and always felt happy here.” Having been a keen sportsman his whole life, Doc said, “I have always been involved in club culture” and he is a firm believer of the importance of camaraderie and friendship that sporting clubs can provide.

Although being a member for many years, Doc commented, “in the last ten years I have taken golf more seriously and am playing much more regularly than I used to.” This extra time for golf has come as a result of his kids moving out of home and him taking a step back from his business, which is certainly not something Mark is complaining about. Playing and practicing at GGC more regularly has seen Mark’s handicap drop in recent years and he says, “I’ve been playing the best golf I ever have.” Consistency is clearly paying off as in 2021, Mark achieved a golfer’s dream, hitting his first ever hole in one on our 4th hole.

When he’s not playing golf, Mark will often be found around the club working on jobs and fixing problems in his job as the club handyman. He is also a regular volunteer around the course, one of our many members who go above and beyond to keep our course beautiful. Mark said, “I have more time now to give back” and, “I love being able to get involved and help out.”

Before and after a round, Mark will often be spotted relaxing and dining in our clubhouse and alfresco, stating, “I always love coming down for a beer, some banter and a good time at the club.” The social aspect and friendship the club can offer is something very important to Mark, as he expressed, “I’ve met a whole new group of good mates through the club.” Mark also indicated that he is very excited about what is in store for the future of Gosnells Golf Club and is loving to be involved with the club as we move forward.

We thank Mark for being such an involved member of our club, be sure to give him a wave next time you see him around.
