November Greens Newsletter

Report by Matt Gannon (Chairman of Greens) and Bob Holmes (Superintendent)

I hope you’ve all noticed how immaculate the course has been looking over the past 4 to 6 weeks since the renovation. I would like to make a special mention of Bob, Simon, and the team whose hard work is really showing out there. Can I please remind members in order to keep the course looking immaculate,  please chop in divots after your shot and rake bunkers once you have finished. If you are unsure of the best way to do this, this is our course care video.

I’ve had the pleasure of playing some of the top courses in Perth over the last 2 months, and I can confidently say our course is presenting and playing better than others out there. So, if you see Bob or the team around, make sure to let them know what an awesome job they’re doing.

Mark H and I are working on creating a more streamlined approach to the volunteer schedule, and we look forward to presenting that to you in next month’s newsletter. You will also notice some work starting around the garden beds at the clubhouse over the coming month.

Just a reminder to keep an eye out for snakes on the course. The photo below was taken on Saturday, December 23rd, by Lou Lombardi. Rumour has it that after the snake was spotted, Lou was found standing on top of his golf cart!

We are about to head into the hotter months, so stay hydrated and remember to keep an eye out for any signs of dehydration in yourself and playing partners.

Bob Holmes, our course super, has prepared a course report for your viewing. Please see below.

Greens: The new grooming heads have now arrived and will be used in line with regular dustings to improve surface smoothness and firmness.

Fairways: Have been sprayed with a PGR (Plant Growth Regulator) this will give the grass on the fairways a tighter knit and finer leaf. The height of cut will be raised from 6mm to 7mm. The area on the 18th fairway which was dug out before clean sand and amendments were added before covering with kikuyu cores is coming along nicely.

Irrigation: The two new rough stations on the 3rd and 16th have now been completed with additional sprinklers added on to the 18th rough station. An extra sprinkler has also been added left front of the 8th green, an area which dries out each year.

The water meter for the 15th bore which is u/s has now been replaced, the new meter which is digital has no moving parts inside and works by pulse with a 15-year battery life.
