Applications to be part of the Gosnells Golf Club Junior High Performance squad for 2025 are now open.
The Junior High Performance squad is for our elite juniors who are looking to excel at golf and are dedicated to continually improving their game. In 2025 we are focused on creating some group training sessions on a range of topics to help our squad grow as golfers but we do not do any technical or swing coaching. Another key focus area is creating opportunities for our HP squad players to play in high quality events and build their experience.
Who should apply?
Qualification Requirements
- Financial playing member of Gosnells Golf Club.
- A member of our GGC Junior Program (GGC home club) for a minimum of 12 months.
- Achieve Adult Access (details available in our Junior Program handbook or ask Darren)
- Display appropriate behavior in line with being a member of our HP squad.
- Achieve and maintain a GA as set by the junior committee. (For reference you should target a single figure handicap but we may set a lower limit. Boys and Girls may have different limits).
- Ideally we want you to nominate and play adult pennants for Gosnells Golf Club, but this is not mandatory.
- Play a minimum of 10 junior (or adult) opens per year as a minimum
What we expect in return
Our HP squad are are role models of the club. We will expect a certain level of volunteering around the junior program as well as creating and maintaining some information we request as part of the program. HP squad will be gifted some branded shirts and we would want you wearing GGC branded shirts when competing in events inside and outside the club, but definitely during presentations and formal events.
We will discuss full HP squad expectations and conditions of selection with all selected players before the commencement of the 2025 HP program.
Applications
Applications are now open. You can apply by completing the application form (click here to download) and sending it to Darren via junior@gosnellsgc.com.au. You can also hand it to Darren or hand it to Moka at GGC. PLEASE DO NOT leave it in the pro-shop with pro shop staff.
The application requires a “Stroke Average” spreadsheet to be provided. Please see below details on how to do this and a template.
Applications will close of Wednesday March 5th at 6pm
Stroke Average Spreadsheet
A stroke average sheet looks at your actual scores in a round and is the same measure Golf WA use for the annual age division awards. You can download a sample stroke average spreadsheet to complete which will get you started in following your own stroke average. If selected you will need to maintain this sheet with all of your scores that go into your handicap record and we will ask you from time to supply the updated copy. Looking forward down a High Performance path (into Golf WA teams or higher) stroke average is a very important factor.
All of this information comes from your GA handicap record. Whilst there may be other ways to do this, I had intended to have the oldest record at the bottom (like your GA handicap) with new records added to the top.
- When you have 20 records it is intended to click on the top record (row 10) and insert a new row.
- After you have filled in all of the details simply copy the Hcap Adjustment and SA Score from the previous record and paste them in your new record and the numbers will calculate.
What is the Hcap Adjustment?
We are following the Golf WA method for calculating stroke average:
Scores returned during an event where the Scratch Rating of the set of tees used is not 71 will be increased or decreased by the number of strokes that it is below or above 71.
Full details can be found on this page:
https://www.golfwa.org.au/crunchsip-junior-stroke-averages/
on the link to describe calculations at the top.
If you have not done Stroke Average before or have any problems or questions please feel to message me or grab me at the club and I will be very happy to go through it with you. Please complete the rest of the application and I can assist new applicants with this. It is not a test to see if you can complete the sheet, but good to learn as stroke average is an important measure.
