Quarter and Semi Finals of Club Championship

It was a day of upsets with giants and favourites of the game, falling into the hands of mainly….youngsters. 

No number 1 qualifier except for Bong Oak Lee in the Women’s B grade has made it to the finals, highlighting a day of big wins and upsets. 

 

Championship Men

The first upset of the morning was the win by number 8 qualifier Mason Burr, winning his match 1 up against the number 1 qualifier Josiah Edwards in the men’s championship quarter-finals. Mason continued his winning run in the semi-finals, defeating Cian McGarvey. Cian won his quarter-final match 4/3 against Paul Chrystall in the morning. 15-year-old Mason now enters his first finals in the Club Championship.  

On the other side of the draw, Nathan Willis pulled a big win in the morning’s quarter-finals, defeating Andrew Woods, the defending champion 2up. Dan Barnett had a 3/2 win over Gareth Spooner in the morning before narrowly defeating Nathan Willis in the semi-finals on the 19th hole. This will also be Dan’s first finals in the Club Championship. 

Championship Women 

Jorja Hinson-Tolchard, the number 1 qualifier won her morning match 4/3 against Alexandria Page but lost against Saehi Suh 2/1, who fought hard to win 1 up in the morning’s quarter finals against Nariko McDonnell. 16-year-old Saehi will now enter her first finals in the Club Championship. 

Sasha Hofman, 6-time and defending champion had a 8/6 win over 14-year-old Isabel Wee in the morning before defeating Halia Edwards in the semi-finals, 1 up. Halia won her quarter-final match earlier that morning on the 19th hole against Kayla Clarke. Sasha will look to defend her title in the Club Championship finals. 

Men A Grade 

14-year-old Ty Cleland had a big win in his quarter-final match against number 1 qualifier Rob Dalrymple with a 1-up win and secured his first finals spot with a 3/2 over Adrian Blount. Adrian won 6/5 against 2022 champion Lino Scartozzi in the morning’s quarter-finals. 

Martin Lovatt had a 1-up win in the morning against Mike Whitfield and went on to win 4/2 in the semi-finals against 14-year-old, Connor Pearson, thus dashing hope of a young finals bout between the two 14-year-olds. Connor Pearson had a good fight and 3/2 win in the morning’s quarter-finals against Randall Heng. This will also be Martin’s first final. 

Men B Grade 

Terry Gale pulled a big 9/8 win in the morning against number 1 qualifier Johnson Taylor and went on to win against Trev Iyer 2/1 in the semi-finals. Trev won his quarterfinals 4/3 against Matt Gannon in the morning. This will be Terry Gale’s first final. 

The youngest winner in the field is 13-year-old Kai Scott, winning on the 20th hole against Greg Dudley in the quarter-finals before defeating Wayne Ledlie 6/5 in the semi-finals. Wayne won his morning match 2/1 against Neil Baker. This will be Kai’s first final. 

Men C Grade 

Guna Nadason won 1 up against number 1 qualifier Daniel Beamish in the quarter-finals before defeating Ken How in the semi-finals, thus securing his first finals spot. Ken How won 3/2 against Warren Wych in his quarter-final match. 

Mark Chamberlain had a 2/1 win against Joe Ganci in his morning’s quarter-finals match before defeating Kane Hurley 5/3 in the semi-finals. This will also be Mark’s first finals spot. 

Women B Grade 

The only number 1 qualifier that survived to the next round is Bong Oak Lee, securing a 3/2 win over Brianna Chueakrungthep.

Nadia De Vries won her semi-final match 5/4 against Gum Chung and will be heading into the finals against Bong Oak Lee. 

 

Good luck to all the competitors in the finals next Saturday. The championship finals will be played over 36 holes and other division matches will be 18 holes in the afternoon. We encourage our members to come and watch the finals next Saturday.
