Red Division Match Recap Monday 14th April

We had the privilege off hosting Kennedy Bay on Monday the 14th April 2025. We were under pressure after tying our last home game v Royal Fremantle. A win was the only way we could rejuvenate our season. We changed the partnership for two teams as well as reversing the order that each group teed off. The result was a 4/1 win to GGC with details as below:

Game 1 Tery Smith / Rod Chapman

The Chapman/Smith combination was promoted/demoted? to open the batting this week. After a fairly even front 9 the boys managed to turn one up. The match returned to square by 12, but then Terry hit some pinpoint accurate shots to win 14 and 15. Reliable Rod managed a great par on 16 to close out the match 3 and 2.

Game 2 Chris Hofman / Mick Reilly

In the second match Chris Hofman & Mick Reilly faced off against Ron and Eric who it seemed had been watching the Ryder cup given how much advice the 14 & 17 handicaps were giving each other on every shot. After halving the first 3 holes with clutch up and downs we kicked into gear, winning the 4th hole and the match was a close see-soaring affair for the first 9 with the home team narrowly in front 1 up at the turn. After halving 10, we then went full Ying and Yang to real off wins at 11,12 & 13 before Mighty Mick broke their hearts with a long putt for half on 14 and then another on 15 to close out the match 5 & 4 and according to the opposition give them only their second defeat for a number of years as a pair.

Game 3 Steve Heathcote / Graeme Bell

Belly and Steve were able to grab the chocolates 3 and 2. We scrambled to save 1 and 2. Belly tried to remove any doubt that he was the weakest link is his team last week with some solid golf that saw us 4 up after 7. We got cocky and lost 8 and 9 to turn 2 up.  David, the low marker in our battle, made pars on 7-9.  They handed us 10. My recollection of 11 is Belly hitting a fine tee-shot.  My recollection of 12 is Belly hitting every tree on the right-hand side of the course. We played regulation ‘3 on + 2 putts’ – they had some tree trouble (less than Belly had on 12, but it was still significant). Belly was good again by 14 and we stood on the 15th tee 4up.  We lost 15 because David hit his second to about 3.0m from the right hand rough – not fair. Belly made a 4 on 16 to halve the hole and seal the match. At that point he declared that he wasn’t the weakest link last week.

Game 4 Terry Gale / David Stephenson

Gale and Stephenson started the game on fire with Gale sinking long putts to birdie the first two holes. We won 6 and 7 with pars to be 4 up after 7 holes. Stevo parred 8 which we thought would put us 5 up but the opposition sank a long putt to half the hole. Pars halved the 9th. We lost the 10th to a par but then Gale birdied 11 and Stephenson parred 12 to go to 5 up. It was all over on the 13th when we both parred the hole to win 6/5.

Game 5 David Voysey / Roy Wingrove

Voysey and Wingrove were on song early and lead two up going down the 13th. They then lost three in a row to be 1 down heading into the 16th. Voysey got up and down for a par to halve the 16th hole but alas they could not win either 17 or 18 and lost 1 down.
