Club Championships
Men's and Women's Club Championships will follow the same format as last year, that is 36 holes stroke over 2 rounds followed by Matchplay.
A Club Championship newsletter will be available in July to explain all the necessary information.
Seniors and juniors will be played over two consecutive Sundays.
Key dates are:
- Men's and qomen's qualifying rounds 3rd and 4th August
- Matchplay will be held on Saturday 10 August and Saturday 17 August.
The Seniors and Junior Club Championships will be held on Sunday 11 August and Sunday 18 August (no matchplay).
This year, members are to enter their group directly into the timesheet - at which time payment must be made.
Carts will be permitted - subject to weather conditions.
Sponsored shotgun starts Thursday and Saturday
Members playing on a Thursday and /or Saturday would be aware that since March we have been conducting a once-a-month trial of a sponsored shotgun start on a Thursday and Saturday. The term of these sponsored shotgun starts is that the sponsor needs to cover both a separate AM and PM competition.
We are now coming to the end of the trial period and will soon be seeking member feedback.
Some observations that I have noted include an increasing number of members wanting to sponsor a competition combined with a positive response to members staying for presentations. A very big thank you to all those that have sponsored one of these events along with everyone else that has sponsored an event.
While we seek your feedback, the sponsored shotguns will continue (provided we have sponsors) and once we have reviewed the feedback, the Match Committee will discuss and a decision communicated to members in due course.
Pennants
Our Women's (Weekday and Weekend) teams are now well into their respective seasons.
Our Men's Division 2, 4, 5 and 6 commenced their season on Saturday 9 June, with 3 out of 4 teams starting with a win. Good luck to all and thank you to everyone who has taken on a Team Captain role.
High Performance Junior Team in Kuala Lumpur
A significant milestone has been achieved in our junior program with 8 members of our Junior High Performance Squad this week travelling to Kuala Lumpur to participate in a World Golf Ranking Event. To everyone who has helped with fundraising, either through our Containers for Change Program, our Junior Gala Day or through personal donations, on behalf of the kids I thank you.
I do not doubt that members from other clubs and the wider golfing community will take notice of this - another example of Gosnells being Your Club of Choice!
A big thank you to Darren Roberts (Junior Coordinator) and Moka Edwards and the Junior Committee for bringing this trip to a reality.
Rules
Several members have asked when we are implementing "lift, clean and place" on the fairways. This is being actively monitored but currently, conditions do not warrant the rule being implemented. But if/ when conditions change the rule will be implemented.
Ever wondered what statements constitute giving advice and therefore are not allowed under the rules of golf?
Examples of statements not allowed;
- A player makes a statement regarding club selection that was intended to be overheard by another player who has a similar stroke
- A player's ball is lying badly.....another player states "...if I were you, I would....."
Examples of statements or actions that are allowable;
- After two players played their shot onto the green, one of the players asks what club the other used
- A player looks into another player's bag to determine which club they used for the last stroke without touching or moving anything
Penalty: If a player asks for or gives advice when either player is playing the hole, the player gets the general penalty on the hole being played. If a player asks for or gives advice when both players are between play of two holes, they get the general penalty on the next hole.
The general penalty is two strokes in stroke / individual play.
