Captain's Update

Match Committee

There are a few changes to the Match Committee.

Lyn Bennett has decided to not continue on the committee - thank you Lyn for your participation over the last 12 months and also previously on the Women's Committee.

Vice Captain Grace Cheetham has also decided to resign from the committee to concentrate on her career.  Grace has been on Match Committee for around 4 years with the majority of this time as Vice Captain.  On behalf of all members, I want to acknowledge the significant contribution Grace has made in this time.  There is a significant workload that happens behind the scenes to plan fixtures and run events and Grace has played an important part in this work.

Thank you to those members who expressed an interest in joining the Match Committee - after reviewing applications, I would like to warmly welcome Adam Kuzimski to the committee.  Adam is a passionate Gosnells member and I look forward to his contribution.

I would also like to announce Clay Godwin as the new Vice Captain.  Clay has been on the Match Committee for the past year and as many would know Clay has done a tremendous job with running Thursday presentations.

2025 Summer Cup

The 2025 Summer Cup will be played on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January.  We have amended the booking process for 2025 to provide members and their guests the first call on bookings before opening up entries to visitors.

Members will be able to book a group (including their guests) for the Saturday round via a timesheet booking on the members portal from 6pm Friday 29 November.  Payment will be required at the time of booking, with carts available on a first come first served basis.  A reverse draw will be completed for Sunday, so if you play AM Saturday, you will be playing PM Sunday.

Following this, visitors will be able to book in via the MiTournament portal from Monday 16 December.  Entries will close on Tuesday 7 January 2025.

The 2024 Summer Cup was a capacity field so I encourage members to use the opportunity of an advance booking window to book themselves in prior to visitors being able to book in.

IJG Gosnells Junior Invitational

A reminder that our 54 hole World Amateur Golf Ranking junior event will be held on 16-18 December.  Play will be held Monday PM, Tuesday AM, Wednesday PM.

On Monday morning there will be no casual play to allow course staff sufficient time to prepare the course for an event of this stature.

On Tuesday, the usual 1 tee rolling competition field start will revert to a two-tee start from 11:30.  Casual play will be available from 3:30pm.

The Wednesday AM timesheet will proceed as normal, with the junior event field following on a two tee start from 11am.  Casual play in the afternoon will be available from 3:30pm.

This event will be a great promotional opportunity for the club as there is only one other junior event in WA that attracts world amateur ranking points.  There will be live scoring for this event and if you are interested in volunteering for the event, please contact Junior Coordinator Darren Roberts via junior@gosnellsgc.com.au

Sponsorship Policy and Sponsored Shotgun Survey

The Board recently approved a member sponsorship policy.   A copy of this policy and other club policies can be found on our policies page

The main points of this policy are around setting some minimum amounts to sponsor a competition:

  • Half Day competition (i.e AM or PM) - $100 minimum
  • Sponsored Shotgun (i.e AM and PM) - $200 minimum, being $100 for AM and $100 for PM
  • If a business is advertised as part of the competition, including but not limited to the business name in the competition, a link to the business website in an email sent to players prior to the competition or flyers available advertising the business; then the above amounts are doubled.

When we commenced the Sponsored Shotgun Competitions on Thursdays and Saturdays earlier this year we committed to undertaking a survey to understand how these events impact on members, whether that be positive or otherwise.

This is the link for the brief survey.  If you are a regular Thursday or Saturday player I encourage you to complete this survey.  The survey will be open until COB 3  December.

Once again I thank all members who have sponsored an event this year - it is great to have members giving back to their club.  One easy way to get involved is to get 3 mates together and each chip in.

If you are interested in sponsoring a competition, please contact Moka Edwards, Golf Operations Manager via gom@gosnellsgc.com.au

2025 Fixtures

Over the past few weeks, we have been busy finalising the dates for our major events in 2025.  This remains a work in progress until such time as GolfWA has finalised their fixtures which should be in the near future.

I appreciate members are keen to understand the dates for some of these major events.  Expected dates I can advise the following:

  • Club Foursomes Championships Sunday 9 March
  • Club Championships will commence 22 and 23 March, 29 March and  5 April (same format as 2024)
  • Gosnells Mens Senior Open Friday 11 April
  • Gosnells Open Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April
  • Gosnells Junior Open Wednesday 23 April
  • Gosnells Women's Silver Bronze Friday 9 May
  • Senior Club Championships Sunday 11 and 18 May
  • Mixed Foursomes Club Championships Sunday 19 October

I hope this helps members with their planning and whilst I can't guarantee these dates, we are getting fairly close to locking them in.

In next month's report, I will provide an update on pennants for 2025.

Club Captain

Attention

Tuesday 19 Nov - The Club will be conducting a drone hole by hole flyover in the morning therefore tee times will start from 8am. One tee start only.

Wednesday 20 Nov - Temporary course in play due to tree removal near the 13th green. 13th hole will be a short par 4 and 15th hole will be a par 3.

OOM 2024

Saturday OOM - last round Saturday 16 Nov

The last round for the Saturday Order of Merit will be held on Saturday 16 Nov.

In an exciting finish to the season, there are 4 members in contention to win the order of merit.  After winning the Saturday PM competition this week, Don McLean has overtaken Adam Kuzimski as points leader.

  • Don McLean 1083 points
  • Adam Kuzimski 1068 poiints
  • Trev Iyer 1022 points
  • Lee Wisson 1005 points

Good luck to the above 4 members this Saturday.

As many would know, this year we introduced slightly increased points for the last 3 rounds in an attempt to maintain interest to the last round.  We will review this over the coming weeks but as I have stated previously it has been great to see the interest in the order of merit throughout the season.

Once again thank you to member Greg Dudley for arranging a very generous sponsorship through RSM Australia.

The winners will be announced and presented with their prize at our Club's Gala Night.

Kids Christmas Party

Kids Christmas Party - FREE event

The annual Kids Christmas Party will be held on Sunday, 15 December from 2.30pm - 5pm.
