Friday Twilights
The booking sheet for Friday Twilights can only be used by those players wishing to play Twilights. Should you wish to play casually on the course, you are asked to book into the timeslots noted as casual play.
Likewise, only players booked into the Twilight bookings will be permitted to play in the Twilight competition.
An important part of Twilights is the camaraderie that occurs in the members lounge post-game game and it is great to see so many members staying back for presentations. To ensure the Twilight presentations are completed as soon as practicable, we are asking all members to ensure they submit their scores within 5 minutes of finishing their round. This is important to avoid our staff needing to follow up on score input. For those in the last couple of groups, if you believe you will not be able to finish within 2 hours and 10 minutes - please call the Pro Shop as soon as possible to advise.
Pace of Play / Timesheet Management
Recently the Match Committee reviewed available data on pace of play for competition rounds at Gosnells. In considering all the relevant factors, the committee has determined that 4 hours 10 minutes is an acceptable pace of play for 18 holes. There are going to be times where the round may take a little longer such as a strokeplay along with challenging weather conditions and no doubt times where the round may be faster.
Generally speaking, we don't have a pace of play issue at Gosnells particularly when compared to some other clubs however we should always be mindful of the impact we have on other members' enjoyment of their game. This of course works both ways. If you are someone who likes to play fast, I am asking you to be mindful that if the group in front is playing to a 4 hour 10 minute standard, then as a Match Committee we are okay with that. If your group is out of position, then I am also asking you to consider whether you are playing to an acceptable pace of play based on the conditions of the day and if you should implement pace of play strategies.
To avoid bottlenecks on shotgun starts, on occasions we will look at reducing the number of groups starting at the same hole from 2 groups to 1. As the timesheet starts to fill, where needed these extra groups will be opened up. Please note there is no intention to reduce the starting groups on holes 1, 2, 9 and 6. On occasion if there are starting tees that have two groups and other tees with no groups, the Pro Shop may direct groups to an alternative starting tee particularly where the group are all in carts. This may occur prior to the day or on the day itself.
Rules
With effect from Monday 16 December 2024, the temporary relief option for aeration roles will be removed.
In relation to the penalty area on holes 9 and 18, given that the lake has dried up significantly, with effect from Wednesday 1 January 2025, this penalty area will return to a NO PLAY ZONE. This means that from 1 January, you must take relief in accordance with Rule 17.1D with the penalty of one stroke. The reason for the no-play zone is to maintain the integrity of the hole. For the remainder of December, you are free to play from within the penalty area for no penalty.
For clarification, if any part of your ball is touching the red line then you are considered to be in the penalty area.
Recently the margins of the penalty area for the dam in the bush between holes 15 and 16 were remarked. This penalty area should be treated as a normal red penalty area in accordance with Rule 17.1D.
This means that the shed to the right of the 15th fairway is now inside the penalty area. Moving further along the 15th hole, there is an inlet pipe that extends a couple of metres out from the dam. Members should be aware that the pipe crosses the penalty area and as a result, part of the pipe is outside the penalty area and part of it inside the penalty area. Should the part of the pipe that is outside the penalty area interfere with your swing or stance you are permitted free relief under Rule 16. However, in accordance with Rule 16.1a(2) you have no free relief options for the shed or the part of the pipe inside the penalty area as the Rules of Golf prohibit such free relief inside a penalty area.
Pennants
Before we know it the respective 2025 Pennant seasons will be underway with the juniors commencing their season on Sunday 2 February followed shortly after by the Senior Men on 31 March.
To provide our members with the opportunity to represent the club, we have to play our part in making our course available for all pennant competitions. We are no different to any other club and this affects every member category. GolfWA determines the timing of the fixtures.
A separate notice will come out soon for all pennant teams (with the exception of juniors) inviting members to express their interest in playing pennants. For those wishing to play Senior Men's pennants, given the season starts at the end of March, nominations will be due in mid-January.
The fixtures for all divisions are on the pennants hub page of GolfWA.
